Marcus Stroman pitched a one-hitter, and the Chicago Cubs beat the major league-leading Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 on Monday.

Stroman (5-4) dazzled in his fourth complete game and second shutout in nine major league seasons. His only other shutout was against the Cubs during his 2014 rookie season with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Jansen, who had 41 saves last year in his only season with the Braves, faced four batters for his ninth save in 10 chances.

"I was locked in," he said. "At the end of the day, that's an individual thing to accomplish. We're here to win ball games and get to the playoffs and try to win a championship. It's just another day. You have to stay focused for that. It was an unbelievable experience."

Casey Schmitt homered in his major league debut and the San Francisco Giants beat the Washington Nationals 4-1 on Tuesday night.

Schmitt was selected from Triple-A Sacramento earlier Tuesday and went 2 for 4 with dozens of friends and family members in attendance.
